DIY Option - Help Line!

Damon modestly describes himself as “a typical DIY kiwi bloke.” I would describe him as experienced, equipped with more than the average amount of tools on his lifestyle section with a water blaster and assorted water pumps and is able to do most jobs himself. However he was having trouble getting the silty sludge out of the bottom of his water tank.

The advice for cleaning your own tank is generally:

Empty the tank. Then remove the scour valve and try to get all the nasty gunge out through it.

Along with having to get rid of all of your water, the problem is that the scour outlet is usually above the floor of the tank on plastic tanks and quite small at only 50mm diameter or so. This makes it very difficult to get the gunge out of the tank.

Or there is no scour outlet and you need to remove the water outlet plumbing. You really don’t want to find out you haven’t sealed these outlets properly when the tank is full again with 20,000L trying to escape!

This is what his water tank looked like this when he called me to help.

This is after he had already spent several hours working hard draining and cleaning inside it.

Ahhhh, looking so much better!

I was happy to help and with my specialized equipment soon had his water tank restored to sparkling clean and suitable from drinking out of.

It was great to get his feedback:

“As a typical DIY kiwi bloke I tried to clean the water tanks myself. What I learnt was – if you want to save time and money – get the professionals in who have the right gear and expertise. Max fitted us into his busy schedule and had us back drinking pristine water in no time.”
